Hope you've enjoyed the snow! This week is something of an anniversary for me. As of Monday morning (provided there's school) SCS will be my longest term employer. I had the privilege of teaching for Heritage Christian Academy from 1996 to 2003, but I left at the end of January in the 02-03 school year to become the pastor of our church in London. It has been a tremendous pleasure to work for two schools of excellence. I've experienced seeing them grow from small (about 200 students) in borrowed facilities to the larger institutions they are today, each in a beautiful state-of-the-art facility. I'm expecting great things in the future for Christian education!
The weather has made it very difficult to maintain a plan over the last several weeks, and this week will be no exception. Following is the plan, barring inclement weather.
Bible: We will watch the documentary "Expelled" by Ben Stein on Tues-Thursday.
US History: I will have test 12 ready to hand out at the end of class on Monday. We will finish test 13 this week and likely test early next week.
Spanish I: We will finish chapter 5 lesson 12 on Monday, test will be on Wednesday. That is the final lesson in the chapter, meaning that we will take a few days to review and then test over all of chapter 5. Please begin reviewing the chapter immediately!
Spanish II: the next time we have class (ostensibly Monday) we will test over chapter 4, lesson 2. The secion on chapter 4, lesson 3 will only take a few days, so we will test again in about a week.
Remember the merit trip on Friday, Feb 5. Please be at the school at 6:45, ready to roll at 7. We will depart Perfect North at 8:00 PM, meaning an estimated time of return sometime after 11:00. More info available in the office. Thanks!

January 25-29, 2010
Most of you have heard the news by now, but the merit trip has been postponed due to inclement weather. We will reschedule asap, and that will likely affect lesson plans, so with that caveat, here we go:
Bible: We'll finish our movie and follow it up with a documentary.
Spanish I - We will test on Tuesday, due to the change in plans, and that will keep us from doubling up on Wednesday with the scheduled history test. We will immediately begin work on 5-12, which we will cruise through rather quickly. I anticipate that in the next week, then, we will complete chapter 5 and be ready to move on to chapter 6.
Spanish II - You are going to have to be on your toes! We are going to move through chapter 4, lesson 1 rather quickly - test this week, in fact. (Chapter 4 has very little grammar, it mostly focuses on vocab. This is in preparation for chapter 5, in which we delve into all-new grammar-!-which makes me excited. Buckle your seatbelts, we're going to be moving quickly!
US History - Test 12 will be on Wednesday, and we will be reviewing Monday and Tues. Of course, we will move on to test 13 lecture notes as time allows.
Arts Appreciation - a time to reflect on all we've seen and heard over the last few weeks! I hope you've enjoyed the documentary as much as I have. The project will be a test grade.

January 18-22, 2010
Happy extended weekend everyone! I hope you use your extra day wisely - rest, exercise, study, and spend time getting closer to family, friends, and God. Here's a look at the week ahead...
Bible: We are nearing the end of Unit 3, meaning that there is a test soon. I will return your books on Tuesday with homework and quiz grades taken over the Unit 2 lessons we've done so far.
Spanish I: We should finish Chapter 5, lesson 11 and be ready to test by Friday. There will be vocabulary quizzes each day, so be prepared!
Spanish II: Due to the snow days it's taken us some extra time to finish chapter 3, but the test is scheduled for Wednesday. We'll immediately launch into chapter 4 lesson 1, beginning vocab quizzes on Friday.
US History:
Fine Arts: We will take a break from lecture to view a documentary called "How Art Made the World". It goes over the eras we've been discussing and hopefully ties the development of art and world culture.

January 11-15, 2010
Now, didn't we learn something from last week's post! I will continue to promote this web site in class, but please don't pass this on - commenting on this week's post will earn you a homework pass in Spanish class. Keep it under your hats.
Here we go:
Bible: Pressing on with Lessons 22 and 23. I will take a homework/quiz grade, which I announced last week but was stymied by the weather.
US History - change in plans!!! The test will be delayed until Friday, Jan 15. The second class didn't get the Thursday lecture because of the early dismissal. We should be able to wrap things up for both classes on Tuesday and open class on Wednesday and Thursday with review. However, we will begin lecture over test 13 at the earliest possible opportunity.
Spanish I - Test delayed until Wednesday (Ch 5, lesson 10), but we have a great deal to accomplish in the next couple of days. Come with your pencils sharp and your pants on fire - we're going to be moving!
Spanish II - virtually the same as Spanish I. Test over 3-3 on Wednesday, Ch 3 next Monday.
Arts Apprec - Roman art review, then on to Rococo. We begin lecture in earnest with Rococo, so get ready to take notes.
Drama - we go to the stage this week with BBB and will spend one day putting music on stage. The first 25 lines are due by Friday, so all 25 and unders should have everything memorized - including prompts. Let's not spend a semester learning lines - instead let's spend our time learning to act! Sorry for the delay in assigning everyone their roles, but that should be completed on Monday - would have been last week except for the snow.

New Semester! January 4-8 2010
I hope you all are as excited to see school resume as I am! Judging by some of the less-than-overjoyed posts on Facebook, I doubt that is the case entirely! However, this is usually one of the most productive periods of the school year. Let's get a good start on the third quarter.
Bible - Lessons 19 and 20
US History - We begin lecture on World War I. There are five days of lecture and I anticipate a test on Wednesday, Jan 13. Remember that you have homework due Friday evening, January 11!
Spanish I - We will begin the study of chapter five. Starting Tuesday there will be daily vocabulary quizzes with a test over 5-10 on Monday, January 11.
Spanish II - We will wrap up chapter 3 by learning reflexive verbs (and the attached pronouns). There will be vocabulary quizzes every day from Tuesday to Friday with a test over 3-3 on Monday, January 11 and a test over chapter 3 on Friday, January 15.
Drama - Introduction to drama, Announcement of parts for the play and musical, tentative dates, ticket information.
In order to assure that this page is fulfilling its purpose, please log on and leave a comment before Wednesday, January 6, and receive a bonus in every class you are taking from me. Thanks!
